Vision Falls

In all likelihood you’ll experience Vision Falls without the presence of other people; this little-visited waterfall is off the beaten path yet accessible with only a short walk.

Near Lake Eachem and Yungaburra in the Atherton Tablelands, Vision Falls is a magical spot - it’s not the largest of falls, but it compensates by its beauty, set in a lush and intimate enclave of rainforest.

Visitor Highlights:

Lake Eachem

A lone freshwater crocodile is a renowned feature of the volcanic crater lake of Lake Eachem; a sign asks swimmers to give the crocodile its space because it’s “timid and not life-threatening” :)

Eachem is a popular picnic and playground reserve for locals; on a weekend the lakeside lawns are filled with sunbathers, picnickers, barbequers and families.

The lake offers a refreshing swim in cool freshwater - perfect for the often very hot days in the Atherton Tablelands above Cairns.

Cathedral Fig Tree

A scenic 6-km side-trip through rolling green pastures reveals one of the marvels of nature - the Atherton Tablelands’ Cathedral Fig Tree.

Named for its stately, cathedral-like formation of its roots, this green fig tree Ficus virens is believed to be about 500 years old.

Set in a beautiful forest, the giant fig tree is only a short walk from the car park and is a must-do for visitors to the Yungaburra area.

Vision Falls

You’ll find the beautiful Vision Falls on Wrights Creek Road, near Lake Eachem. The falls are otherwise known as the Wrights Creek Falls or Fairyland by locals.

Vision falls are situated off a short section of Wrights Creek Road that is blocked off to vehicle traffic, but is very pedestrian friendly. It’s about a 10-minute stroll under a shady rainforest canopy from either end of the road.

To locate the falls look on Google maps for the section of Wrights Creek Road between Gadgarra Road and Lakes Drive, near Lake Eachem.

You can park at the vehicle barrier at the corner of Gadgarra Road and Wrights Creek Road.

A signpost near the bridge over Wrights Creek points to the waterfall track. It’s a magical walk, following a narrow forest path over tree roots and under fallen logs.

Yungaburra

Don’t miss the chance to drop in on the town of Yungaburra. This is the jewel in the crown for visitor-oriented towns of the Atherton Tablelands.

It’s colourful and lively. There are frequent markets and festivals.

Yungaburra offers pubs and cafes, eateries and boutique shopping.

Attractions such the giant fig trees, platypus viewing, riverside walks, crater lakes and waterfalls, are all in the vicinity.
