Cairns has a vibrant culture ranging from its indigenous cultures through to arts and music and theatre.

Renowned as party central for travellers and backpackers, Cairns offers a variety of night clubs, laneway bars and music venues. Popular venues include Gilligan’s Nightclub and The Woolshed.

Cairns Festival, held annually for a week in late August, celebrates the spirit and lifestyle of Australia’s Tropical North Queensland (TNQ).

Free public events in 2023 included Reef Light - an immersive sensory light experience and reef themed lighting effects on the Cairns Esplanade portraying the reef ecosystem.

The Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival has established itself as a major cycling event in Tropical North Queensland. Riders traverse the Great Barrier Reef drive between Port Douglas and Palm Cove. Lock in 6-8 September 2024!
