Connecting Palm Cove with Port Douglas

Work is underway to build the much anticipated Wangetti Trail through the Wet Tropics World-Heritage rainforests of the Macalister Range - a cycle and hiking trail running parallel with the Great Barrier Reef coastline.

Construction of the first stage linking Palm Cove with Ellis Beach began in August 2023.

A coastal highway links Palm Cove to Port Douglas but the Wangetti Trail will traverse the pristine rainforest well above and inland from the road.
