Lugger Bay Walk - discover this beautiful coastal walkway at the southern end of South Mission Beach in Queensland’s Cassowary Coast.

The trail is otherwise known as the Kennedy Bay Track. When the tide is in the track “terminates” at Lugger Bay. Unless you walk through the sea or scramble across a rock face, this is your turn-around point.

It’s a beautiful 30-minute coastal walk to Lugger Bay, even without going all the way to Kennedy Bay. Partially shaded, the trail skips around a hillside of pristine coastal rainforest. Just a short walk in from the car park, you’ll reach Lovers Beach. Continue to the lookout across to Dunk Island.

The Kennedy Bay Track was completed in 1988. Efforts of conservationists resulted in saving the coastal forest, a cassowary habitat, from development. The forest is now classified as a national park and is therefore preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Kennedy Bay is named after the first European explorer to the area - Edmund Kennedy. Kennedy led an ill-fated expedition to explore the Cape York Peninsula in 1848. Kennedy travelled with the assistance of a young aboriginal man named Jackey Jackey and died in his arms on the expedition after being speared by Aborigines.
