Trinity Beach and Earl Hill

Visit Trinity Beach

Trinity Beach, located just 20 minutes north of Cairns City, is a picturesque and serene coastal destination boasting an idyllic stretch of soft sand and peaceful waters.

With its safe swimming conditions and inviting shoreline, this beach provides a tranquil retreat from the bustle of city life.

As you stroll along the water’s edge, the fine-grained sand offers a delightful foot massage, adding an extra touch of relaxation to your beach experience.

Stroll the shady promenade, play in the waves, explore the rocky headlands, cook on a barbecue and simply .. breathe. The ocean is pure.

On warm evenings, especially on weekends, the grassed areas sloping down to the beach are filled with family picnic and barbecue gatherings.

Children play on the beach and there is a carnival atmosphere as people chill out in the cool of the evening, enjoying the off-shore breeze.

On Trinity Beach Road, a playground and skate park offer hours of fun and entertainment for children.

In the warm morning sunlight the promenade affords an ideal place for walking and exercising dogs on leads.

White cockatoo forage on the beach and under the shady trees.

Trinity Beach Walks

Earl Hill trails, Exploring Taylor Point, Ron McKauge Walk

Earl Hill

The reward for climbing Earl Hill awaits you at the top - am amazing perspective on Trinity Beach below and Coral Sea views stretching northwards towards Port Douglas.

Earl Hill

Half-way up the Earl Hill climb veer to the right for an alternative track and mini summit.

Views from this track look back towards Cairns City and out to Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef.

Follow the lower trail through to Half Moon Bay, ending with steps down to Trinity Park Beach - perhaps the least known of Cairns Northern Beaches.

Taylor Point

At the northern end of Trinity Beach sits a wild, forested headland with coastal views.

A track leads through the bush to rocky outcrops above the Coral Sea.

Continue your descent to an untouched beach, quite remote from general tourist areas.

The headland comprises a number a four-wheel drive tracks, where previously, 4WD enthusiasts would have fun with their vehicles.

The tracks are now closed off with concrete blocks and the bush is reclaiming these tracks.

A number of wild flowers including invasive species are reclaiming the land.

The land is currently in private ownership although access for walkers is not restricted.

A local conservation group is working at persuading the council to buy back the land before it’s developed for housing.

As with Earl Hill, the group wants to see the headland reverted to public reserve with free access for all.

Question & Answer

How do I get to the start of the Earl Hill walking track?

The entrance to the forest walk up Earl Hill is near the corner of Roberts Drive and Flagship Drive.

You’ll see interpretive signage opposite the starting point. There’s also a water fountain. There is no parking at the entrance point so it’s best to park your car nearby in the boat ramp car park at 64 Reed Road.

Walk from the car park along Roberts Drive, crossing the road and crossing a bridge.

An alternative trailhead for Earl Hill is off the beach at Trinity Park Beach (also known as Half Moon Bay Beach).

You’ll come across a shiny new metallic staircase at the northern end of the beach.

The stairs access a track through cycad palms and along a ridge with amazing ocean views. The track continues to a summit and lookout.

How do I get to the start of the Taylor Point walking track?

There are two access points to the tracks on Taylor Point; one off Mararna Street, the other from the corner of Moore St and Connemara Close.

However, the most practical (and scenic) approach is via the stairs on Vasey Esplanade ..

Descent to Vasey Esplanade, Trinity Beach

The public access steps skip past the Bellevue Holiday Apartments and adjoining Amaroo at Trinity.

A trail leads into a short, delightful shady walk over tree roots to the top of Mararna Street.

This is the point at which the track becomes a little wild and overgrown.

The bush will draw you in and lead to some vantage points, with great views across the Coral Sea.

Ron McKauge Walk

One of the most popular short walks at Trinity Beach is a short trail of about 5 minutes from the sands at the southern end of Trinity Beach out onto a rocky promontory at the base of Earl Hill.

The trail, although with rock steps that appear to lead off around the cliff, does not continue beyond the promontory.
