Redlynch Valley is a residential suburb of Cairns, about 15 minutes drive from Cairns’ CBD.

The valley is enveloped by the bush-clad mountains of the Lamb and Whitfield Ranges. During the summer rainy period the mountains are enshrouded in mists. It’s a beautiful and serene locality within the Cairns urban areas.

Freshwater Creek drops from the Lamb Range at Crystal Cascades and wends through the valley. For much of its length pathways and forest walks follow the creek.

For a shady and easy walk we suggest the path from The Rocks to Mary Parker Drive, as highlighted in the above images.

Half-way along Redlynch Intake Road a left turn at The Rocks Rd takes you to a parking area at The Rocks Reserve. There is a small toilet block here and easy access to the creek and pathways. Just upstream is a popular swimming hole in the refreshing waters.

Follow the path over a bridge crossing Freshwater Creek and head up the valley along the shaded path. The path is shared with joggers, cyclists and scooters. On one side you’ll see parks and housing estates; the other the forested banks of Freshwater Creek.

The trees that shade the path provide cover from the sun on a hot day. After about 30 minutes’ walk you’ll reach the Mary Parker Drive road bridge that provides access to the residential area of Redlynch Valley Estate.

The Freshwater Creek trail is very near Sharbella Espresso, based at the Redlynch Valley Tennis Club. The venue with sit-down cafe and deck is new; coffee superb!
